OM3501A automatic amplifier

The OM3501A is an automatically tuned 1.8–29.7 MHz HF radio-frequency (RF) linear amplifier using a GU78B tetrode, a four-electrode power vacuum tube. Automatic tuning changes amplifier output settings as operating conditions change.

RF ratings and transmission modes

OM Power rates this model at 3500 W SSB (single sideband) or CW (Morse), and 3000 W RTTY/FM, under stated conditions. These are manufacturer specifications, not measured or legally permitted power. Peak output ratings do not on their own describe duty cycle, the fraction of time the transmitter may operate continuously.

CAT control, antenna matching and safety

CAT is the interface by which a transceiver communicates information such as operating frequency to compatible accessories. The OM3501A can coordinate band selection and tuning with supported equipment. Before transmitting, check the antenna, cooling and standing-wave ratio (SWR), which indicates feed-line mismatch. Dangerous high voltages can remain after switching off.
