OM Power OM4001HF

OM4001HF amplifier overview

The OM Power OM4001HF is a manually tuned HF (high-frequency or shortwave) radio-frequency (RF) linear amplifier. It increases the output of a separate transceiver and needs a suitably matched antenna; it is not a complete receiver or transceiver.

Manufacturer power ratings

OM Power quotes nominal 4000 W for SSB (single sideband) and CW (Morse telegraphy), and 3000 W in specified other modes. These figures apply under manufacturer conditions; they are neither independent EA2EWL measurements nor legally permitted output levels. Duty cycle, the fraction of an operating period spent transmitting, is also important.

Manual tuning, antenna matching and safety

Manual tuning involves adjusting the output circuit by the procedure and drive level specified for the actual unit. Check coaxial connections, grounding and the antenna before transmitting. Standing-wave ratio (SWR) indicates mismatch and possible reflected power. High voltage inside the amplifier may remain dangerous after mains power is disconnected, so servicing requires qualified personnel.
