OM Power OM1700+

OM1700+ manually tuned amplifier

The OM Power OM1700+ is a radio-frequency (RF) linear amplifier for an external amateur transceiver. OM Power lists 1.8–29.7 MHz and 50 MHz operation. It uses a ceramic 4CX1500B tetrode, a four-electrode vacuum tube. This model is manually tuned, unlike the OM1700A+.

Band coverage and rated power

OM Power specifies up to 1700 W for HF SSB (single sideband) and CW (Morse). Digital modes and 50 MHz have different limits. HF means high frequency, which includes the shortwave amateur allocations. The WARC amateur bands refer to 30, 17 and 12 metres. All figures cited are manufacturer ratings rather than independent tests or legally permissible outputs.

Manual tuning explained

Manual tuning requires adjustment of the output circuitry using the specified drive level and the amplifier’s indications. It is not the same as selecting a frequency on a transceiver. Standing-wave ratio (SWR) indicates mismatch in the antenna/feed-line system; excessive mismatch can affect the amplifier output stage.
