OM Power OM2002W
OM2002W solid-state VHF amplifier
The OM2002W is a radio-frequency (RF) linear amplifier using transistors instead of power vacuum tubes. OM Power identifies two MRF1K8 devices and 144–148 MHz coverage, subject to national amateur frequency allocations.
Rated power, modulation and duty cycle
Manufacturer figures are up to 1800 W CW (Morse) or SSB (single sideband), and 1600 W in AM, FM and digital modes at a 50% duty cycle. Duty cycle is the fraction of an operating period during which RF is transmitted. These are not independent measurements or legal operating limits.
VHF feed lines and cooling
At VHF (very high frequency), coaxial cable loss can be important. Impedance describes opposition to an alternating signal; mismatch produces reflected power, which is monitored by standing-wave ratio (SWR). Suitable connectors, antenna matching, ventilation and drive power are essential.
