OM1700A+ automatic amplifier

The OM1700A+ is an automatic radio-frequency (RF) linear power amplifier for amateur bands from 1.8–29.7 MHz and 50 MHz. Unlike the manually tuned OM1700+, it offers automatic tuning. OM Power identifies a ceramic 4CX1500B tetrode, a four-electrode vacuum tube for RF amplification.

Operating modes and power

OM Power quotes up to 1700 W for HF SSB (single sideband) and CW (Morse), with separate conditions for 50 MHz and digital transmission modes. These are manufacturer ratings, not independent measurements or legally allowed outputs. Drive power and duty cycle must comply with instructions for the precise equipment revision.

Automatic tuning and safety

Automatic tuning adjusts amplifier operating settings when conditions change. It should not be confused with an external antenna matching unit. Standing-wave ratio (SWR) indicates mismatch between feed line and antenna, so coaxial connections should be checked before transmitting. Dangerous internal high voltage may remain after disconnection.
