OM3500HF HF linear amplifier
The OM Power OM3500HF is a high-frequency (HF or shortwave) radio-frequency (RF) amplifier for 1.8–29.7 MHz. It uses a GU78B tetrode, a four-electrode power vacuum tube, to amplify an external transceiver’s signal.
Manufacturer power ratings
OM Power lists 3500 W SSB (single sideband) and CW (Morse), plus 3000 W RTTY (radioteletype), AM (amplitude modulation) and FM (frequency modulation), under specified operating conditions. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements or legally permitted outputs.
Output tuning, cooling and high voltage
A vacuum-tube amplifier’s output circuit must be tuned according to its exact manual. Standing-wave ratio (SWR) indicates antenna and feed-line mismatch and possible reflected power. Unobstructed cooling dissipates heat. The high-voltage supply can retain dangerous stored energy even after mains disconnection.
